Social Studies Department

The Social Studies Department offers selections which make up core courses for all junior grades as well as grade 11.  These include Social Studies 8 to 11, which are mandatory for all students.  As well, courses such as History 12, Geography 12, Law 12, Creative Studies, and Canadian Civics 11 are offered as enrollment dictates.

The Social Studies 8 course focuses on where we have come as a civilization, starting with Europe's Early Middle Ages.  In Grades 9-11, the focus shifts to Canadian history, starting with the first inhabitants of North America in grade 9 up to the more recent conflicts and events which have occurred during the 20th century in grade 11.

All students are required to complete a provincial exam for Socials 11 credit either in Social Studies 11 or the alternate course, Canadian Civics. You can check our current course offerings here. Mr. Archibald's Social Studies page can be seen here.
