We hope that you have enjoyed the summer break; and after weeks of "Back to School" ads, September is here! We are excited about the year ahead and will welcome over 400 students through the doors of David Thompson Secondary. Among the many returning students, familiar to DTSS, we have quite a number of new students and staff. Nearly one hundred of these new faces are the Class of 2022! DTSS is thrilled to once more host international students from around the world. This year we will welcome students from Japan, Germany, Spain, Mexico, and Switzerland.
Returning to our staff this fall is Mrs. Elena Merrill; it is wonderful to have Mrs. Merrill back with us in the valley! Two more former staff members are this fall returning to DTSS but not from across the country. Mrs. Lainey Wilson has made the trek up the hill from J.A. Laird to once more join our Physical and Health Education department. It is fun to note that Mrs. Wilson also spent her own high school years at DTSS. Can you find her picture among the grad classes on the wall? Mr. Brent Wilson has made the longer trek up the hill from Open Doors and will join our Learning Services department, and joining our team as an Education Assistant this September is Ms. Helen Clysdale. Also Joining our staff this September is Ms. Anjelika Sotnikova, who will be teaching science, math, and computer technology. And re-joining us for this school year will be Mr. Greg Constable. A warm welcome to all.
September is a very busy month, filled with new beginnings, new opportunities, and new learning. It can pass in a blink, and navigating the days and events can be supported with solid communications. DTSS has an active Facebook page, Twitter account, and website. We try to push out current and timely information through these channels, as well as home email. You can link to our social media feeds from our website. If you were receiving email from us last year, then it should continue uninterrupted. If you have a new email account or have not received email from us before, please be certain to update a complete demographic report for our office (this was sent home in the August mailout).
September is fresh but familiar: same place, same time, but a new mix of people and situations! We are looking forward to an exciting year of challenge, learning, and opportunity! Once again, welcome back!
