Our school has an experienced and dedicated staff. Students have access to the full range of provincial curriculum, including French Immersion courses, and locally developed curriculum that is engaging and relevant. Counselors monitor student programs and facilitate connections to colleges, universities, or the workforce when students complete the secondary school program. Our students have the opportunity to study academic subjects including some AP courses; in addition, we offer learning opportunities in Outdoor Education, Photography, Digital Media, Metalwork, Personal Fitness, Music (Choral and Concert Band), Woodwork, Home Economics, Leadership and Automotive. Students can participate in team sports, a hockey development program, rock climbing, cross country and downhill skiing, mountain biking, golfing, and music, drama and art activities. There is something for everyone. Every second year, a Ski Patrol Program is offered for a reasonable fee for international students and is free to Canadian students.
A beautiful school building houses networked classrooms and science labs, a gathering area called the Forum, as well as a library that reflects 21st century learning. We have running and walking trails surrounding our school, as well as a courtyard with picnic tables for outside studying, eating and socializing.Golden Secondary School welcomes many international students each year. Their addition to our school community and, more broadly, to Golden provides opportunities for life long cross cultural friendships to begin. In addition, we welcome hockey players who have moved to Golden to join the Rockets for a season. They learn to balance playing hockey with school studies and living in a different town.
