Programs and Services

Nicholson Elementary School offers a wide variety of programs to enhance learning. Some of the programs offered are:

 

Student Support Services

The Student Support Services program at Nicholson Elementary School provides help to students who are experiencing learning difficulties in the regular classroom.  Students may receive assistance on a regular basis during class time in the classroom and/or in small group settings.

 

Speech-Language

Students identified as requiring speech and language support receive assistance on a regular basis during class time in the classroom and/or in small group or individual sessions.

 

Cultural Programs

Cultural activities are presented by performing artists throughout the year.  Performance activities and information are made available to the teachers and parents.

 

Fine Arts Program

Nicholson Elementary has an Arts Education program available to all students.

 

Counselling

Counselling is provided to Nicholson students and parents by teacher referral, parent referral and/or student referral.

 

Library

Time is provided during the school day for students to sign out books for use at home or during free reading time at school.


Computer Lab on Wheels (COW) 

Nicholson Elementary has a class set of laptops on a cart available for classroom use.  Students use applications to develop skills appropriate to their grade level.  Parents must sign a waiver before students can access the Internet.

 

Buddy Activities

Intermediate students may be partnered with primary students for Buddy Activities including reading, writing and art projects.

 

Sharing Assemblies

Classes have an opportunity to present creative writing projects, plays, or songs to the rest of the school.  Parents and friends are welcome to attend this time.  A schedule of dates is sent home in a newsletter.

 

Aboriginal Support

Students of Aboriginal Ancestry receive additional support with academic and cultural programs from the Aboriginal Education Support Worker.​
