Honour Roll/Attitude & Effort Roll Criteria

The following criteria need to be met for students to be eligible for the Honour Roll and Attitude & Effort Roll:

  • Be registered in a minimum of 6 courses with Selkirk
  • Have at least 3 courses from Selkirk in any given term/quarter to count towards the Honour Roll and Attitude & Effort Roll

    * Please note that Distance Learning courses do not count towards Selkirk's Honour Roll

Honour Roll Criteria (grade 10-12's only)

  • Will include all Quarters (reporting periods during the year)
  • Based on % avg.
  • No score <60%; no "I's"
Honourable Mention72.5-77.49%
Honours77.5-85.49%
Distinction85.5-100%


Attitude & Effort Roll Criteria (grade 8-12)

  • Based on the work habit scale (E= Excellent; G= Good; S= Satisfactory; N= Needs Improvement)
  • Students who have all E's/G's or all E's/G's are eligible for the Attitude & Effort Roll.  Any student with a "S" or a "N" is not eligible for the Attitude & Effort Roll

 

Awards Criteria & Information

The Selkirk Awards Committee meets each May and June to decide on the larger year-end awards presented at Selkirk's Academic Awards night in June.

Awards Criteria

The criteria below need to be met in order to be eligible for the following awards:

  • Attitude & Effort and Citizenship Awards
  • Top Citizenship Awards
  • Top Academic Awards- grade 10-12 students only
  • Academic Awards of Excellence (grade 10-12 only)
  • Senior Awards of Distinction
  • Bill Murphy Award
  • Principal's Award

    Please note that Distinction & Awards of Excellence awards include Honour Roll and Attitude & Effort Roll information; thus, students who do not meet the Honour Roll Criteria will not be eligible for these awards.
Attitude & Effort and Citizenship Awards
  • Recognizes students who have been on the Attitude & Effort Roll for Quarter 2 and 3 (not 4 as Awards Night happens prior to the last reporting period) and any students who have shown solid citizenship throughout the year

Top Citizenship Awards

  • Recognizes a student or a couple of students in each grade who stood out in the above criteria

Top Academic Awards (grade 10-12 students only)

  • Recognizes the top academic student or a couple of students in each grade based on GPA with course load taken into account; teachers and administration will discuss students with the same GPA to determine recipients

Academic Awards of Excellence (grade 10-12 students only)

  • Recognizes students in each grade who have achieved Distinction for Quarter 1, 2, and 3 for grade 10-12's.

… for Quarter 3 for grade 8's and 9's (as linear courses are cumulative)

Senior Awards of Distinction

  • Recognizes Grade 12 students who have achieved Distinction & Attitude & Effort Roll for each reporting period in grades 10, 11, & 12 (Quarter 2, 3, and 4 in grade 10 and 11 and Quarter 1, 2 and 3 in Grade 12; early grads will be considered based on Q1 and Q2 of their grade 12 year)
  • These students are honoured with an engraved watch

Bill Murphy Award

    • Staff nominated, committee selected
    • Presented to a grade 12 student who has excelled in the following areas: 
  • Academic excellence
  • Dedicated volunteer service to the school/Leadership
  • Actively participates in athletic activities

Principal's Award

    • Staff nominated, committee selected
    • Presented to a grade 12 student who has excelled in all aspects of school at Selkirk: 
    • Academic excellence
    • Citizenship/Leadership
    • Attitude and Effort
    • Extracurricular pursuits
