Maintenance Assistant

Temporary-Effective October 24 to November 28, 2025, or return of incumbent

 

For the purpose of filling the above position, the Board shall consider the qualifications and ability of applicants. Applicants will be required to:

  1. Show evidence of appropriate training in the field of work required for the position;
  2. Show relevant work experience in the field of work required for the position;
  3. Demonstrate leadership qualities for the position; and
  4. Possess an appropriate number of years of service with the District.

 

Under the general supervision of Operations Supervisor, the Maintenance Assistant is a 12-month employee who is responsible for the day-to-day activities related to the Maintenance and Custodial Departments. The Maintenance Assistant will be required from time-to-time throughout the year, to either perform duties of the Operations Supervisor when absent and/or assist the Operations Supervisor when present. This employee must possess a full time permanent position within the Maintenance Department.

      

As directed by the Operations Supervisor, Director of Operations, or designate, the Maintenance Assistant will:

  1. Maintain business activities of the zone such as coordination of work orders and projects, supervision of purchasing, verification of goods received, maintenance of records, reports, completion of Reports of Injury, completion of Accident Investigations, etc.;
  2. Liaise with parents, principals and teaching staff regarding maintenance and or custodial issues/items;
  3. Liaise/coordinate with the appropriate agencies related to maintenance matters;
  4. Provide general direction and assign the daily work of personnel, and when appropriate, communicate work concerns first to the employee involved, and failing resolution, to the appropriate manager; and
  5. Coordinate the assignment of relief personnel.

 

Required Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

  1. Previous training and/or experience is required. Candidate will work as a participating member of the maintenance team.
  2. Must have the ability to delegate work effectively.
  3. Must possess and demonstrate good planning, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  4. Must assist in developing training programs for maintenance personnel, as required.
  5. Must possess skills and qualifications, which would assist in the performance of their duties.
  6. Must have the ability to maintain all day-to-day business activities relating to maintenance throughout the zone.
  7. Must be willing and able to facilitate a team environment within the maintenance and custodial departments.

 

Job Relationship

  1. Responsible to the Operations Supervisor, Director of Operations, or designate.
  2. Has general contact with parents, students, principals, teachers, general-public, and fellow employees.
  3. Must function in a leadership role but with no disciplinary duties.

 

Rate of Pay

As per the Collective Agreement 440
