Aboriginal Arts Development Awards

The Indigenous Arts Program in B.C. has a long and nuanced history, stretching back to a time well before colonization. Music, dance, carving, weaving, regalia, body art – these are just some of the artistic expressions that reflect our cultures and identities. Our art is a conduit for physical, mental, socio-cultural and economic well-being.

BC Achievement Scholarship

The Ministry determines the recipients based on achievement in Grade 10, 11 and 12 courses. Be eligible for a BC Certificate of Graduation (Dogwood) and meet the requirements of the BC Graduation Program by August 31st. Be graduating in the same year that the scholarship is awarded.

Have at least a "B" in Language Arts 12 course, have no more than one Transfer Standing or Standing Granted indicator among course marks used for calculation of winners, excluding Language Arts 12, which must have a percentage score.

BC Excellence Scholarship

Student must be eligible for a BC Certificate of Graduation (Dogwood Diploma); fulfill the requirements of the BC Graduation Program; be graduating in the same year the scholarship is awarded; and have the following final marks: Min B average in grades 11 and 12 courses required for graduation. Min B in Language Arts 12. Min B average no more than one C+ and no marks lower than C+ in courses that fulfill graduation requirements for Science 11 or 12, Math 11 and Social Studies 11 or 12.

BCGEU Scholarship Program

The annual scholarship program of up to $85,000 offers awards of $2,000 for full-time students and $1,000 for part-time students. Scholarships are funded by the dues of our members.

BCSSA Student Scholarship

The British Columbia School Superintendents Association will award six regional scholarships to students planning to pursue post-secondary studies. Students wishing to be considered for a scholarship must be currently enrolled in their final year of studies at a public secondary school in British Columbia and expected to graduate in June 2022. One winner will be chosen from each of the six BCSSA provincial chapters (Fraser Valley, Kootenay-Boundary, Metro, Vancouver Island, Northern, Thompson-Okanagan).

Award amount: $1000 CAD

District Authority

Criteria: Canadian citizen or permanent resident, BC resident, must have been in school the year the scholarship is awarded (Public School, Distance Learning), meet the selection criteria of our Scholarship Committee and must fulfill BC graduation requirements.

Recognize students in their chosen interest or strength. Student must show outstanding achievement in one of the seven "Areas of Achievement" SD6 provides a 'Conditional Winner Notification' letter in June to winner we have selected. Ministry confirms that eligibility requirements have been met after Aug. 31.

Winners are notified by Ministry in October and can also view whether a voucher has been issued by logging in to Student Transcript Service. Winners will receive cheques after they have returned their verified voucher or supporting document to the Ministry of Education. Students have five years from date of issue to redeem the scholarship.

Pathway to Teacher Education Scholarship

The Pathway to Teacher Education Scholarship is awarded to 20 outstanding high school graduates who have demonstrated a commitment to and aptitude for a career in K–12 teaching.

Award amount: $5000 CAD
