Rocky Mountain School District is searching for a continuing, full-time (1.0 FTE) Principal at J. Alfred Laird Elementary School. This educational leadership role is effective August 1, 2025.

 

J. A. Laird Elementary School is situated on the unceded and crossover lands of the Secwépemc and Ktunaxa People, located in Invermere, British Columbia. We have almost 30 staff members serving approximately 250 students from Grades 4 to 7. We take great pride in the wide range of opportunities offered to students, including intramural sports, skiing, swimming, Secwépemcstin language classes, lunchtime clubs, and regular visits from local elders and knowledge keepers.

Our strategic plan is aligned with Rocky Mountain School District’s four strategic priorities: Equity, Delivery and Inclusion; Success for Each Learner, Growing the Capacity of Self and Others; and Stewardship for the Future. This year, our focus has been on incorporating the First People’s Principles of Learning into our work with students. Our staff have been involved in a variety of learning experiences designed to make learning authentic and relevant to our learners, while also furthering our own path toward Truth and Reconciliation.

 

We invite applications from candidates with effective teaching and leadership experience and a familiarity with the First Peoples Principles of Learning, the BC Curriculum, and Learning Pathways. We are looking for a leader who is service oriented, who follows a student-centered philosophy, and who has a strong commitment to professional growth. A master’s degree in administration, leadership, curriculum or other related area is expected to be completed or in progress. The successful candidate must hold or be eligible for a BC Teachers’ Certificate issued by the Teacher Regulation Branch.
