Please join the District in supporting Black Excellence Day 2023!

Today, we ask our school communities to join the District in recognizing Black Excellence Day.  As a lead up to Black History Month, Black Excellence Day is a day to celebrate history, stories, art, and Black people, and a day to stand in solidarity with Black Canadians.

Black Excellence Day was established by the Ninandotoo Society and is celebrated annually on January 15th, or the Friday before if that day falls on a weekend or holiday in honor of the legendary civil rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who was born on January 15, 1929.

It’s also a day to recognize and support the contributions of Black Canadians. You can find a wealth of resources at the Black Excellence Day Resources page. One resource in particular, from the British Columbia Black History Awareness Society (BCBHAS) shares the specific history of Black people in BC.
