Since the 2022/23 school year, Rocky Mountain School District has administered a district-designed numeracy assessment to students in Grades 8 and 9.
This assessment presents students with a contextual situation requiring mathematics to solve, and is assessed using a rubric aligned with the language of the BC Learning Pathways. It is similar in design to that of the BC Ministry of Education's Graduation Numeracy Assessment, written by students in Grade 10.
As a a result of the commitment and hard work by teachers, students, and administrators at our three secondary schools, student achievement on the provincial measure for numeracy has been rising steadily since the implementation of the assessment.
In Spring 2025, several teachers participated in a pilot of assessment tasks designed for Grades 4 through 7. It is hoped that full implementation of district-designed assessment for these grades will be possible for Spring 2026.
