June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day.  On this day, Rocky Mountain School District No. 6 wants to recognize and celebrate the cultures, customs, and legacy of the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to our Indigenous partners, the Secwépemc Nation, the Ktunaxa Nation, the Shuswap Band, the ʔakisq̓nuk? First Nation, ʔaq ̓am Community, the Métis Nation Columbia River Society, Columbia Valley Métis Association, and the Rocky Mountain Métis Association.

We also want to extend a huge thank you to the teachers, Educational Assistants, Indigenous Education Support Workers and many others who are taking a lead role in educating our students about the history and culture of our First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people.

While June 21 is a celebration for the value of all Indigenous culture and history, in RMSD we will continue to strive to cultivate lasting relationships that build towards Truth and Reconciliation and equity for all Indigenous peoples.
