National Indigenous History Month banner

In June, SD6 recognizes National Indigenous History Month. Throughout this month, we encourage our school communities to take time to acknowledge the invaluable history, culture, resilience and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples across Canada.

The spirit within our Indigenous peoples has survived genocide, Residential schools, systemic racism, inequity, and intergenerational trauma. The sacred ceremonies and traditions are being fostered in communities as Indigenous peoples, advocates, and allies strive to protect Mother Earth.

Our District Vice Principal of Indigenous Education and Equity, Jenna Jasek, has compiled the following information about National Indigenous Day.
